Hurricane Idalia Headed Our Way
We need to leave Hilton Head Island earlier than planned to avoid flooding
Debbie and I have decided this evening to depart from Hilton Head a little earlier than expected.
Hurricane Idalia is well on its way towards us.
After tracking updates on the tv, the hurricane will make landfall in Florida Tuesday evening. Projections have it reaching the Charleston/Hilton Head area late night Wednesday or early Thursday morning. Our current Thursday departure is being moved up to Wednesday morning to ensure our safety.
At this point I am not worried about being in the middle of the hurricane, but I am concerned about flooding on an Island where there is one road for getting to higher grounds away from the water.
My friend Scott chimed in today via text, “better pick up snorkeling gear.”
Having none, we are opting to avoid swimming for our safety.

Meteorologists predict Idalia is expected to develop into a category four hurricane. As of tonight though, it is still a tropical storm moving slowly past Cuba. Tampa Internaitonal airport is not taking chances and has announced it is closing at midnight tonight.
Obviously things can change on short notice, so I’ll be monitoring the news from here on out. Something I haven’t done much of since starting my radical sabbatical.
My morning routine in Hilton head has been early morning walks with Debbie on the beach, taking in the sunrise. Today was no different. Idalia’s impact is already taking shape here. The change in the weather created a terrific and layered sunrise. Here’s a quick example of what I was capturing.
I was going to post tomorrow about some of the fun things we experienced here. That will have to wait as I want to get this out to everyone this evening. Part of any adventure is tackling the unexpected and I’d say this hurricane fits into that category.
