As you may recall, I recently wrote about nesting turtles. The post included information I learned about turtles and nesting season in South Florida. The story came full circle during an early morning walk yesterday.
Debbie and I were strolling along the shore line when we met a volunteer helping to extract a few baby turtles that had not yet exited the nest. This 10-year volunteer dug her hands in the sand and scooped the remaining newborn turtles. She then gently placed them in a small blue bucket and covered them with a small blue bowel to keep the sunlight out. Her team plans to release the turtles at night, creating a safe path to the ocean when predators including local birds are less likely to harm them.
My brief video below captures one of the turtles coming up for air for the first time.
For another one our other recent outings we rented a boat. The pontoon boat could have seated about 14, but we had just four of us aboard and we took control of it for a four hour spin. When we grew hungry we dropped anchor near a sand bar and enjoyed lunch and took a dip in the warm water. I had never dropped anchor before so it was a bit of an adventure making sure the boat was secure. Eventually we successfully lodged the anchor in the sand.

Debbie served as captain and did a fine job guiding us around the waters from behind the wheel.
I am enjoying being near the beach and allowing the camera lens do a bit of the work by capturing the beauty during our visit. The shot below was captured during a thunderstorm. I would have loved to photograph a lighting bolt dropping from the sky. I settled for for lighting illuminating the ocean from our condo. It was still an impressive sight and a terrific show by mother nature.
The storms have also helped foster the backdrop for amazing sunset photographs. Each night is a new version of a spectacular light and cloud show and I’ve dedicated early evenings to capturing it.
These photos are beautiful, Charles! Great little post.
